The Deadly Intruder doesn't really have a good reputation. It's consistently reviewed as a rather boring addition to the slasher genre. While the movie doesn't really do much to differentiate itself from its peers, I wouldn't say it's boring. I wouldn't even really call it bad. Not good, but not bad.
A mental patient escapes from his institution. The bodies begin piling up as males act as dumb as possible and the females look for any excuse to show the goods. That's it! You basically have the plot synopsis wrapped up in two sentences. It's all really standard slasher stuff: Escaped mental patient, nudity, synthesizers, and dumb men.
While The Deadly Intruder doesn't stand out from other movies of it's time, it does keep a good pace between the kills. The kills aren't gory in any way shape or form. But some of these are pretty unique which keeps them entertaining despite the lack of bloodshed. The dialogue is helped by the terrible acting. It really keeps the film from getting boring since every scene has either a decent murder or a really goofy speaking line.
I love the slasher genre. It is hands down my favorite horror sub genre. I'll be the first to admit that this movie is not for everyone. It brings absolutely nothing to the table, the acting is bad (but in a good comical way), and there isn't really much bloodshed. Despite all this, it utilizes the slasher formula really well. I have a hard time hating on any slasher that sticks to the basics. If you're a fan of the sub genre, I'd say this is worth checking out at least once if you've seen everything else already.
Body Count:10
Side Note: The opening scene of this movie is seriously Halloween. Like seriously..
